Ponton Magazine

  • Ponton Magazine is made by and for people working in design. For us, a ponton (French and Dutch for Pontoon) doesn’t just refer to a floating platform but a bridge between different ideas, contexts, generations and disciplines. And that’s precisely what we have tried to do in this issue.

Published by Z33: House for Contemporary Art, Design and Architecture together with Designregio Kortrijk.

  • Editor: Josh Plough, Jenny Stieglitz, Myrthe Pieniakowski
    Designers: Studio Studio

  • ISBN: 9789463960014

Tales from a Technocratic City

  • Through the lens of design, writing, researching, archeology and artistic practice, the city was dissected by an editorial board overseeing a group of participants from various backgrounds.
This publication has collected some of those works as well as commissioning additional essays and research. The topics covered, while local, tie into the wider global debate surrounding big data and citizenship. From branding to surveillance, this publication analyses the rhetoric behind the people and companies shaping our technocratic cities.

Co-Machines (Second Edition)

  • Inspired by the recent tendency among architects and designers to opt out of traditional office work in favour of creating self-initiated interventions in public space,‘Co-machines’ maps out a new architectural movement motivated by practices of place-making, occupying and squatting, and alternative economies. Ecological or technological in scope, all the interventions are mobile and nearly all of them are performed without permission from city planners.

We Are The Market!

  • We Are The Market! commissioned 18 unannounced achievements in the high-streets that offered an alternative. As well as this, written contributions were delivered by people able to provide informed content after tending bar in the exhibition space.
These offerings to the public were gathered and presented in the relatively private sphere of the Onomatopee white cube—a space all too often mistaken for yet another shop.
